BUSY ANTS CALCULATION POLICY

As adults we use the mathematical skills we remember from secondary school.

This means we have generally forgotten all the small steps that got us to that point in the first place at primary school.

Parents may find the following information useful when trying to make sense of the ways in which children are now taught to carry out calculations

Busy Ants is a mathematics teaching programme which has been implemented in Key Stage 1&2 to ensure a consistent approach to maths teaching which reflects the need to be able to calculate efficiently, using both formal written and informal mental methods.

Pupils complete exercises which meet the National Curriculum 2014 objectives and there are weekly assessments to measure how well they have secured the skills taught.

The methods used in each year group can be found in the CALCULATION POLICY displayed below.
